There are three types tense. काल मुख्य रूप से तीन प्रकार के होते हैं।
3. Future tense (भविष्य काल)

 1. Past tense - (भूत काल)

 Defination:-  जब कोई कार्य बीते हुए समय में करना या होना मालूम हो उसे past tense (भूत काल) कहते हैं।
जैसे - 
  • मैं भारत में रहता था।  -  I used to live in India.
  • तुम क्या कर रहे थे?  -  What were you doing?l
  • मैं नहीं जानता था।   -   I did not know.
  • वह चला गई।   -   She went
  • वह कहां गई थी?   -   where had she gone?

 Tips of past tense? भूत काल के प्रकार

 I).     Past indefinite tense.
 II).   Past imperfect/continuous tense.
 III).  Past perfect tense
 IV).  Past perfect continuous tense.

additional Knowledge:-

  • Person 

अंग्रेजी में person तीन प्रकार का होता हैं।
  1. First person = I, We
  2. Second person = you
  3. Third person = He, She, It and any singular name

क्या  -     What
किसे  -    Whom
कब  -      When
कैसे  -      How 
कौन  -     Who
कहां  -     Where
क्यों  -      Why
कौन सा  - Which 

  I). Past indefinite tense.

Defination:-  जिस tense (काल) से कोई काम बीते हुए समय में पूर्ण रूप से करना या होना मालूम हो उसे past indefinite tense कहते हैं।  पहचान -  या, ई, ऐ, था, थी, थे  (हिंदी क्रिया के वाक्य के अंत मे)   

Structure (वाक्य की बनावट)

Assertive :-    S + V² + O.
Examples:- 
  • आपने क्रिकेट खेला.       You played cricket.
  • मैं स्कूल के लिए चला गया।     i went to school.
  • वह बाजार गया था.     He went to market.. 
  • मैंने चावल खाए।     I ate rice.
  • मैं एक पुस्तक पढ़ा     I read a book.
  • रीता अंग्रेजी जानती थी।    Rita knew english
 Negative:-
past indefinite tense का sentence अगर Negative हो तो नीचे दिए गए Structure का प्रयोग करें।
S + did + not + V¹ + O.
Examples:-          (did not = didn't)
  • मैंने नहीं खाया था।        I did not eat.
  • उसने नहीं पढ़ा          He didn't read.
  • वे स्कूल नहीं गये।        They didn't go to school.
  • वे नहीं रोई।          she did not weep.
Interrogative:-     
past indefinite tense में अगर वाक्य interrogative (क्या) से शुरू हो तो नीचे दिए गए Structure का प्रयोग करें-
Did + S + V¹ + Object?
Examples:-
  • क्या तुम खाना खाए?         Did you eat?
  • क्या वे पढ़े?            Did they read?
  • क्या तुम जानते थे?        Did you know?
  • क्या वे दौड़े?            Did they run?
  • क्या वह आई?          Does she come?
  • क्या हम मैच जीते?          Did we win tha match?
Interrogative negative:-   
Past indefinite tense में अगर वाक्य interrogative (क्या) से शुरू हो और negative (नकारात्मक) का बोध हो तो नीचे दिए गए Structure का प्रयोग करें -
            Did + S + not + V¹ + Object?
या-    Didn't + S + V¹ + Object?
Examples:-
  • क्या तुम नहीं पढ़े?    Did you not read?
  • क्या मैं वहां नहीं गया?   Didn't I go there?
  • क्या वह नहीं पढ़ी?   Did she not read?
W.H words in present indefinite tense:-
Past indefinite tense के वाक्य अगर W.H words से शुरू हो तो नीचे दिए गए Structure का प्रयोग करें -
Assertive:-  W.H words + did + S + V + O
  • तुमने क्या किया?          What did you do?
  • वह कहां रहते थे?           Where did he live?
  • हम वहां क्यों गए?          Why did we go there?
  • वह यहां कब आई?          When did she come here?
  • तुमने ये कैसे किया?         How did you do this?
Negative:-    W.H words + did + S + not + V + O?
  • तुम क्यों नहीं पढ़े?         
  • Why did you not read?
  • वह कैसे नहीं रोई?
  • How didn't she weep?
  • वे यहां क्यों नहीं आए?
  • Why did they not come here?

 II). Past imperfect/continuous tense.

Defination:-   जिस tense (काल) से कोई काम बीते हुए समय में पूर्ण रूप से होकर जारी रहना मालूम हो उसे past imperfect tense कहते हैं। पहचान:- रहा था, रही थी, रहे थे      (हिंदी क्रिया के वाक्य के अंत मे)  

Structure (वाक्य की बनावट)

1st और 2nd person singular के साथ was और plural के साथ were का प्रयोग होता हैं।
Assertive:-    S + was/were + V⁴ + object
Examples:-
  • तुम क्रिकेट खेल रहे थे। You were playing cricket.
  • मैं स्कूल जा रहा था। I was going to school.
  • वह बाजार जा रही थी। She was going to Market. 
  • मैं खाना खा रहा था। I was eating food.
  • मैं एक पुस्तक पढ़ रहा था। I was reading a book.
  • गाय घास खा रही थी। The Cow was eating grass.
Negative:-
Note 2 :-   past imperfect tense का sentence अगर Negative से शुरू हो तो नीचे दिए गए Structure का प्रयोग करें -
S + was/were + not + V⁴ + object
Examples:-
                     Was not = Wasn't,  Were not = Weren't 
  • मैं नहीं खा रहा था।         I was not eating.
  • वह नहीं पढ़ रहा था।         He was not reading.
  • तुम स्कूल नहीं जा रहे थे।      You weren't going to school.
  • वह नहीं रो रही थी।         Sha were not weeping.
Interrogative:-     
Note 3 :-   past imperfect tense में अगर वाक्य interrogative (क्या) से शुरू हो तो नीचे दिए गए Structure का प्रयोग करें -
is, am, are + S + V⁴ + object
Examples:-
  • क्या तुम खा रहे थे?              Were you eating?
  • क्या वे पढ़ रहे थे?                 Were they reading?
  • क्या तुम यह जान रहे हो थे?   Were you knowing this?
  • क्या वे दौड़ रहे थे?                Were they running?
  • क्या वह आ रही थी?              Was she coming?
Interrogative negative:-   
Note 4 :-  past imperfect tense में अगर वाक्य interrogative (क्या) से शुरू हो और negative का बोध हो तो नीचे दिए गए Structure का प्रयोग करें - Was/Were + S + not + V⁴ + object?
Examples:-
  • क्या तुम नहीं पढ़ रहे थे?   
  • Were you not reading?
  • क्या मैं वहां नहीं जा रहा था?
  • Was I not going there?
  • क्या वह नहीं पढ़ रही थी? 
  • Wasn't she reading?
W.H words in past imperfect tense:-
past imperfect tense के वाक्य में अगर W.H words हो तो नीचे दिए गए Structure का प्रयोग करें -
Assertive:-     W.H words + was/were + S + V + O?
  • तुम क्या कर रहे थे?        What were you doing?
  • वह कहां रह रहा था?         Where was he living?
  • हम वहां क्यों जा रहे थे?      Why were we going there?
  • वह यहां कब आ रहा थी?       When was she Coming here?
  • तुम किससे बात कर रहे थे?     Whom were you talking to?
  • तुम यह कैसे कर रहे थे?       How were you doing this?
Negative:-    W.H words + was/were + not + S + V + O?
  • तुम क्यों नहीं पढ़ रहे थे?         
  • Why were you not reading?
  • वह कैसे नहीं रो रही थी?
  • How was she not weeping?
  • वे लोग यहां क्यों नहीं आ रहे थे?
  • Why weren't they Coming here?

 III). Past perfect tense

Defination:-  जिस tense (काल) से कोई काम बीते हुए समय में पूर्ण रूप से हो गया मालूम हो उसे present perfect tense कहते हैं।       
पहचान -  चुका था, चुकी थी, चुके थे, या था, ई थी, ये थे

Structure (वाक्य की बनावट)

Note 1 :- अगर वाक्य में 1st या 2nd person आए तो नीचे दिए गए Structure का प्रयोग करें-
Assertive :-    S + had + V³ + O.
Examples:- 
  • तुम क्रिकेट खेल चुके थे।     You had played cricket.
  • मैं स्कूल जा चुका था।       I had gone to school.
  • वह बाजार गया था।         He had gone to Market. 
  • मैं खाना खा लिया था।         I had eaten food.
  • मैं यह पुस्तक पढ़ लिया था।       I had read this book.
इस प्रकार के वाक्य भी past perfect tense के ही होते हैं।
  • मैं दो दिनों से बीमार था।        I had been ill for two days.
  • मैं व्यस्त रहा था।        I had been busy .        
 Negative:-
Note 2 :-   past perfect tense का sentence अगर Negative हो तो नीचे दिए गए structure का प्रयोग करे।
                  S + had + not + V³ + O
Examples:-             had not=  hadn't 
  • मैंने श्याम को नहीं देखा था।      I had not seen shyam.
  • उसने मेरी मदद नहीं की थी।      She hadn't helped me.
  • सूर्य अस्त नहीं हुआ था।        The sun had not set.
  • सर नहीं आए थे।         The teacher had not come. 
  • वे लोग नहीं सोए थे।        They had not slept.
  • बच्चे स्कूल नहीं गए हैं।       children hadn't gone to school.
Interrogative:-     
Note 3 :-   past perfect tense में अगर वाक्य interrogative (क्या) से शुरू हो तो नीचे दिए गए structure का प्रयोग करे -
                     Had + S + V³ + O?
Examples:-
  • क्या तुमने खाना खा लिया था?       Had you eaten food?
  • क्या वे लोग आए थे?        Had they come?
  • क्या तुमने राम को पीटा था?        Had you beaten Ram?
  • क्या उसने अपना काम कर लिया था?  Had he done his work?
  • क्या बच्चे सो चुके थे?           Had the children slept?
  • क्या आपका भाई आ चुका था?      Had your brother come?
Interrogative negative:-
past perfect tense में अगर वाक्य interrogative (क्या) से शुरू हो और negative का बोध हो तो नीचे दिए गए structure का प्रयोग करे -
                       Had + S + not + V³ + O?
Examples:-
  • क्या बच्चे स्कूल नहीं गए थे?  Hadn't the children gone to school?
  • क्या तुम वहां नहीं गए थे?   Had you not gone there?
  • क्या वह नहीं आया था?   Had he not come?
  • क्या मैने कुछ नहीं किया था?  Had I not done anything?
W.H words in past perfect tense:-
Note 5 :-  past perfect tense में वाक्य अगर W.H words से शुरू हो तो नीचे दिए गए Structure का प्रयोग करें -
Assertive:-
W.H words + had + S + V³ + O?
  • तुमने क्या किया था?       What had you done?
  • वे वहां क्यों गए थे?        Why had they gone there?
  • वह यहां कब आई थी?       When had she come here?
  • तुम किससे बात किए थे?    Whom had you talk to?
  • तुमने ये कैसे किया था?     How had you done this?
Negative:-
W.H words + has/have + S + not + V³ + O?
  • तुम क्यों नहीं पढ़ चुके थे?         
  • Why hadn't you read?
  • वह कैसे नहीं रोई थी?
  • How had she not wept?
  • वे यहां क्यों नहीं आए थे?
  • Why had they not come here?

   IV). Past perfect continuous tense.

Defination:-  जिस tense (काल) से कोई काम बीते हुए समय में पूर्ण रूप से होकर लगातार जारी रहना होना मालूम हो। उसे past perfect continuous tense कहते हैं।       
पहचान -  (ता) रहा था, (ती) रही थी, (ते) रहे थे 

For/Since का प्रयोग - Use of For/Since

Use of For in hindi - For का प्रयोग 

for का प्रयोग sentence में अनिश्चित समय बताने के लिए किया जाता हैं।
जैसे- for 5 seconds, for 5 minutes, for 10 hours, for 2 weeks, for 10 years, for a while, for a long आदि

Use of Since in hindi - Since का प्रयोग

Since का प्रयोग sentence में निश्चित समय बताने के लिए किया जाता हैं।
जैसे- 
since 2 AM, 
since 2 o'clock, since 2022, since Sunday, since morning, since yesterday आदि

Structure (वाक्य की बनावट)

Assertive :-   
S + had + been + V ⁴ + O + for/since + O.
Examples:- 
  • मैं पढ़ते आ रहा था।   I had been reading.
  • वह इंतजार करते आ रहा था।   He had been waiting.
  • मैं बचपन से यहां रह रहा था।   I had been living here since childhood.
  • वे लोग सुबह से दौड़ रहे थे।    They had been running since morning.
  • मैं यहां दस सालों से पढ़ रहा था।   I had been reading here for ten hours.
  • हमलोग 2022 से अंग्रेजी सीख रहे थे।   We had been learning English since 2022.
 Negative:-
Past perfect continuous tense का sentence अगर Negative हो तो नीचे दिए गए Structure का प्रयोग करें।
S + had + not + been V ⁴ + O + for/since + O.
Examples:-
  • मैं सुबह से नहीं दौड़ रहा था।      
  • I had not been running since morning.
  • मैं दो महीने से परीक्षा की तैयारी नहीं कर रहा था।     
  • I had not been preparing for the examination since fabruary.
  • तुम तीन दिनों से काम नहीं कर रहे थे।     
  • You had not been working for three days.
  • वह मेरी मदद वर्षो से नहीं कर रहा था।     
  • He had not been helping me for years.
  • मैं 2021 से इस स्कूल में नहीं आ रहा था।     
  • I had not been coming in this school since 2022.
Interrogative:-     
Past perfect continuous tense में अगर वाक्य interrogative (क्या) से शुरू हो तो नीचे दिए गए Structure का प्रयोग करें-    
Had + S + been + V ⁴ + O + for/since + O?
Examples:-
  • क्या वह सुबह से दौड़ रहा था?   
  • Had he been running since morning?
  • क्या मोहन दोपहर से सो रहा था?   
  • Had Mohan been sleeping since afternoon?
  • क्या तुम 2004 से इस काम को कर रहे थे?   
  • Had you been working this work since 2004?
Interrogative negative:-   
Past perfect continuous tense में अगर वाक्य interrogative (क्या) से शुरू हो और negative (नकारात्मक) का बोध हो तो नीचे दिए गए Structure का प्रयोग करें -
 Had + S + not + been + V ⁴ + O + for/since + O?
Examples:-
  • क्या तुम वर्षो से यह काम नहीं कर रहे थे?   
  • Had you not been doing this work for years?
  • क्या मैं 2021 से तुम्हे नहीं पढ़ा रहा था?  
  • Had I not been teaching you since 2021?
  • क्या वह 2020 से इस शहर में नहीं रह रही थी? 
  • Had she not been living in this city since 2022.
  • क्या हम लोग 9 बजे से व्यायाम नहीं कर रहे थे?  
  • Had we not been taking exercise since 9 o'clock?
  • क्या हम देश की सेवा नहीं करते आ रहे थे?  
  • Had we not been serving the country?
W.H words in padt perfect continuous tense:-
Past perfect continuous tense के वाक्य अगर W.H words से शुरू हो तो नीचे दिए गए Structure का प्रयोग करें -
Assertive:-  
W.H words + had + S + been + V ⁴ + O + for/since +O?
  • तुम क्या करते रहे थे?       What had you been doing?
  • वह कहां रहते आ रहा था?     Where had he been living?
  • वह एक घंटे से क्या पढ़ रहा था?  
  • What has he been reading for one hour?
  • वे एक घंटे से क्यों चिल्ला रहे थे?  
  • Why had they been crying for an hour?
  • हम सुबह से क्या करने की कोशिश कर रहे थे?  What had we been trying to do since morning?
  • वह सुबह से कहां पढ़ाई रही हैं?  
  • Where has she been studying since morning?
Negative:-
W.H words + had + S + not + been + V ⁴ + O + for/since +O?
  • तुम सुबह से क्यों नहीं पढ़ रहे थे?  
  • Why had you not been studying since morning?
  • आप वहां कब से नहीं जा रहे थे?  
  • For how long had you been not going there?
  • सुबह से वर्षा क्यों नहीं हो रही थी?  
  • Why had it not been raining since morning?
  • वे कल से काम क्यों नहीं कर रहे थे?  
  • Why had they not been doing the work since tomorrow?
  • वह दो दिनों से क्यों नहीं आ रहा था?  
  • Why had he not been coming for two days?
Solved Examples (for revision)
  1. वह सुबह से दौड़ रहा था। 
  2. तुम सुबह से नहीं पढ़ रहे थे। 
  3. वह बचपन से कुछ नहीं कर रहा था।
  4. वह लापरवाही से पैसे खर्च करता रहा था। 
  5. क्या राम बाबू 2003 ई॰ से इस विद्यालय में पढ़ा रहे थे? 
  6. क्या तुम सोमवार से अँगरेजी नहीं पढ़ रहे थे? 
  7. आप 9 बजे से क्या कर रहे थे? 
  8. वह दस दिनों से कहाँ रह रही थी? 
  9. वह कब से इस मकान में रह रहा था? 
  10. वह शाम से क्यों नहीं आ रहा थी? 
  11. मैं वर्षों से आपका इंतजार कर रहा था। 
  12. वह रात से खाना क्यों नहीं खा रही थी? 
  13. आप सुबह से आराम क्यों कर रहे थे? 
  14. आप इस नौकरी के लिए कब से कोशिश कर रहे थे? 
  15. क्या वह सुबह से दौड़ रहा था?
English 
  1. He had been running since morning.
  2. You have not been studying since morning.
  3. He had not been doing anything since childhood. 
  4. He had been spending money neglectfully. 
  5. Had Ram Babu been teaching in this school since 2003?
  6. Had you not been studying English since last Monday?
  7. What had you been doing since 9 o'clock? 
  8. Where had she been living for ten days?
  9. Since when had he been living in this house? 
  10. Why had he not been coming since evening?
  11. I had been waiting for you for years. 
  12. Why had she not been eating since night?
  13. Why had you been resting since morning?
  14. How long had you been trying for this job?
  15. Had he been running since morning?

Revision of past tense

I). Past indefinite tense examples.

मैं गया।   I went.
मैं नहीं गया।   I did not  go.
क्या मैं गया?   Did I go?
क्या मैं नहीं गया?   Did I not go?
मैं क्यों गया?   Why did I go?
मैं क्यों नहीं गया?  Why did I not go?

वह पढ़ा।   He read.
वह नहीं पढ़ा।   He did not read.
क्या वह पढ़ा?   Did he read?
क्या वह नहीं पढ़ा?  Did he not read?
वह कब पढ़ा?   When did he read?
वह क्यों नहीं पढ़ा?  Why did he not read?

II). Past continuous tense examples.

वे जा रहे थे।   They were going.
वे नहीं जा रहे थे।   They were not going.
क्या वे जा रहें थे?   Were they going?
क्या वे नहीं जा रहे थे?   Were they not going?
वे कहां जा रहें थे?   Where were they going?
वे क्यों नहीं जा रहे थे? Why were they not going?

वह पढ़ रहा था।  He was reading.
वह नहीं पढ़ रहा था।  He was not reading.
क्या वह पढ़ रहा था?   Was he reading?
क्या वह नहीं पढ़ रहा था?   Was he is not reading?
वह कैसे पढ़ रहा था?   How was he reading?
वह क्यों नहीं पढ़ रहा था?  Why was he not reading?

III). Past perfect tense examples.

वह सो चुकी थी।  She had slept.
वह नहीं सो चुकी थी।  She had not slept.
क्या वह सो चुकी हैं?  Has she slept?
क्या वह नहीं सो चुकी हैं!  Has she not slept?
वह क्यों सो चुकी हैं?  Why has she slept?
वह कैसे नहीं सो चुकी हैं?  How has she not slept?

तुम दिल्ली गए हो।  you have gone to Delhi?
तुम दिल्ली नहीं गए हो।  You have not gone to Delhi?
क्या तुम दिल्ली गए हो।  Have you gone to Delhi?
क्या तुम दिल्ली नहीं गए हो। Have you not gone to Delhi?
तुम दिल्ली क्यों गए हो।  Why have you gone to Delhi?
तुम दिल्ली क्यों नहीं गए हो?  Why have you not gone to Delhi?

IV). Past perfect continuous tense.
तुम दो दिनों से यह काम कर रहे हों।
You have been doing this work for two days.
तुम ये काम दस दिनों से नहीं कर रहे हों।
You have not been doing this work for ten days.
क्या आप ये कम सोमवार से कर रहे हैं?
Have you been doing this work since Monday?
क्या तुम ये काम 10 बजे से नहीं कर रहे हों?
Have you not been doing this work since 10 o'clock?
तुम सुबह से क्या कर रहे हों?
What have you been doing since morning?
तुम 10 दिनों से क्या नहीं कर रहे हों?
What have you not been doing for 10 days?
